Coffee,
as a commodity, has continued to play a leading role in the economy of Uganda,
despite the vigorous efforts by Government to diversify the economy. Uganda
grows three main types of coffee – Robusta, Coronal and Arabica, which is the
case type in the prices below. Uganda’s average farm holding sizes are in the
range of 0.5 and 2.5 hectares. Coffee is mostly grown in mixed-stand where it
is intercropped with food crops that are known to ensure households’ food security,
such as bananas and beans.
