History

Infotrade started in 2008 as a project undertaken by FIT Uganda Ltd in partnership with Agricultural Sector Program Support [ASPS/DANIDA] to set up and manage a self sustainable agricultural market information system. Infotrade has since built platforms that allow one access real time agricultural market data through the internet and the mobile phone [sms].

In 2008, Infotrade covered only 6 markets located in only 3 districts neighbouring the capital Kampala; these were Kampala, Kiboga and Masaka. By December 2011, Infotrade had expanded to ensure each region is evenly represented in the market information collection and currently covers 18 districts all over Uganda - Arua, Gulu, Hoima, Kasese, Kampala, Kapchorwa, Kiboga, Kabale, Kisoro, Mbarara, Masaka, Mbale, Soroti, Kabarole, Lira, Luwero, Iganga and Jinja. In 2011, Infotrade started working with organisations that are involved in collection of market information at county/subcounty/parish level  to provide them with on-line solutions to carry out their activities. This service was set up to be able to understand how prices change at different stages as they go along.

Today, Infotrade continues to work with farmers and agricultural stakeholders in providing relevant market information through the most convenient and most affordable avenues available.
